While Labor Day marks the end of summer for many Americans, I’m reminded of the hard work that so many have done in our fields, schools, hospitals, police and fire departments, and in all vital areas of our economy and society.
As we gather with our families and friends today, let us remember that this day is about the important contributions made by working people in our region and across California. It is also a solemn reminder of the sacrifices made by those who fought to make our society and workplaces safer and fairer for all hardworking Americans.
There is still more work to be done. Families are struggling to make ends meet despite working long hours and even several jobs at once. We need to work to ensure Californians earn a living wage, and that wages and benefits are secure and equal for everyone.
In the State Senate, I will be a tireless advocate for working men and women, and will always stand by their side.
Happy Labor Day.
Sincerely,
Melissa Hurtado
Candidate, State Senate District 14
