Senator Hernandez Earns Heavyweight Backing of Progressive State Senate President pro Tempore Kevin de León
LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CA — Expanding his coalition of support in the race for California Lieutenant Governor, today State Senator Dr. Ed Hernandez received a high-powered endorsement from State Senate President pro Tempore Kevin de León.
In announcing his endorsement of Senator Dr. Ed Hernandez’ campaign for California Lieutenant Governor, State Senate President pro Tempore Kevin de León released the following statement:
“Senator Ed Hernandez is a bold leader who has fought to bring progress to California. He’s led the charge against Big Pharma to address skyrocketing prescription drug costs and he’s fought Big Tobacco to raise California’s smoking age to 21. I’ve witnessed firsthand Senator Hernandez’ efforts to help build a fair economy, create jobs, enact tough environmental laws, advance immigrant rights and gun safety policies and more. In addition to today’s announcement, Senator Hernandez has earned over 500 endorsements from organizations that represent working families like the California Nurses Association, Service Employees International Union (SEIU) California, the California Teachers Association, and State Building and Construction Trades Council of California, as well as public safety groups like the Peace Officers Research Association of California (PORAC), along with an expansive list of grassroots activists, elected officials and community leaders across California.
Recently, State Senator Dr. Ed Hernandez rolled out a new digital video ad, titled “Proven Progressive,” in his campaign for California Lieutenant Governor. The ad highlights some of the Senator’s high-powered endorsements, including from the California Nurses Association and the California Teachers Association, along with his 100% legislative voting scorecard from organizations like the California Labor Federation* and Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California Advocates*.

Significantly, recently California Governor Jerry Brown signed Senator Dr. Ed Hernandez’ groundbreaking drug transparency bill, SB-17, into law. Senator Hernandez’ latest digital video ad, titled, “Life or Death,” features a moving testimonial from Kendall Renee, who is allergic to more than 95% of foods and carries at least four EpiPens with her at all times. Renee highlights Senator Hernandez’ efforts to combat skyrocketing drug costs in the ad.
