In this campaign, I’ve gotten to experience one hope-filled moment after another. I want to tell you about a pretty special one.
I was doing a town hall at Sparks High School in Nevada. We were near the end, wrapping up a Q&A when the lights went out. Then, hands with lit phones started shooting up. One here, one there. After a few seconds, we could see one another again. I could see the people who showed up to hear what I had to say and share what was on their minds. They could see me. We were in it together, like we’ve been from the beginning.
We closed out a big push at the quarterly filing deadline earlier last week and posted some of the strongest numbers of anyone in the field. I’m incredibly grateful. It also got me thinking about all the people making this campaign what it is: the teams on the ground in South Bend and around the country who are rallying support, setting up events, and spreading the word.
I wanted to do something for those teams, and I could use your help. We’re calling it our Keep the Lights On campaign, and this is the goal: to raise $500,000 to cover a month of operating expenses at every field office in the country — and support all the other work to run this campaign, too — by midnight tonight. Let’s work to get a boost so that our teams can focus on nothing but building and growing our support.
The truth of all this is supporting a candidate for office isn’t really about the candidate. At least, it shouldn’t be. It should be about you and those you care about. It should be about entrusting someone to think about you when they make decisions.
That’s what you should get from your government. It’s not what you’ve been getting. We’re in urgent need of a new approach. We need one that puts you front and center, one that’s focused on rising to meet our challenges, because that’s what you do every day.
As president, I’ll bring that new approach. I hear your calls for something different, and I share your vision. We need solutions bold enough to solve the challenges we face and big enough to bring people together. And I’m determined to make sure you and everyone who supports us across this country have what they need to take us to new heights.
