I just wrapped up a great conversation on climate change about the critical importance of taking action, the work California has done, and why we cannot bury our heads in the sand and hide behind science denial and phony math.
That conversation, I should add, was at the Vatican.
At the invitation of Pope Francis’ Pontifical Academy of Sciences, I addressed international leaders and experts at the Health of People, Health of Planet Workshop at the Vatican. It was a great honor to be asked to speak on a subject that I am so passionate about and have worked so hard to address: protecting our world from the ever-growing threat of global climate change.
As Senate Leader, I am so proud of California’s recent groundbreaking work to democratize access to clean energy and promote environmental justice. While in Rome, I also shared lessons learned from our state’s decades-long commitment to promoting energy efficiency, clean energy, and environmental protection.
We have a proven roadmap to address climate change and improve public health that is fundamentally just and also strengthens our economy. By democratizing our climate policies and making sure the benefits of clean energy reach every economic strata and every corner of our state, we’re dramatically expanding the environmental movement and accelerating the transition to a clean energy future.
It was an honor to speak here at the Vatican — and I look forward to continuing this important conversation and spreading the word of the success we’ve had in California with the country and world.
Thank you,
Kevin
