Fiona Ma

John Burton is supporting my campaign for State Treasurer! John gave me and a lot of other women our start in public service. He taught me how to speak out for social justice, how to stand by your principles, and how to lead and make California a better place for everyone.

John Burton and Fiona

I greatly appreciate what John Burton had to say about my candidacy: “Fiona’s commitment to advancing socially responsible investments and job expansion make her the only choice to manage California’s finances as our next State Treasurer.”

Fiona at the Marine Corps Base

I had the opportunity to visit this amazing program at the Marine Corps Base at Camp Pendleton, where the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipefitting Industry trains veterans for jobs. Instructor Sean is a grateful and excited graduate of the program who now teaches master welding to other Marines transitioning back to civilian life.

Fiona with Mayor Ed Lee

While in San Francisco, I participated in a meeting about food insecurity and hungerand ways to raise awareness about this very real issue with Mayor Ed Lee and Bill Mattos and Ira Brill of Foster Farms.

Fiona with Evan Low

I testified at the State Capitol on Assemblyman Evan Low’s AB 280, which would create a new checkbox on California tax returns: “Rape Kit Voluntary Contribution Fund.”This money will assist with the backlog of rape kits waiting to be tested. Nationally, there are 400,000 rape kits sitting on shelves while the statute of limitations clock keeps ticking. Justice delayed is justice denied. #EndTheBacklog

Cannabis Banking Working GroupCannabis Banking Working Group
It was a packed house for our 5th Cannabis Banking Working Group Meeting convened by State Treasurer John Chiang. Congressman Dana Rohrabacher gave us the federal lay of the land, and it’s not positive. He advised California to take the lead and find a workable solution to banking the industry, so other states, and eventually the federal government, will have to get on board. Our next and final meeting will be on August 10th in Los Angeles.

Fiona in Modesto

While visiting the Central Valley, I took this photo at the Modesto Arch: “Water – Wealth – Contentment – Health.” Fun fact: Filmmaker George Lucas, who was born in Modesto, graduated from Thomas Downey High School in 1962, and attended Modesto Junior College, immortalized the city in his award-winning 1973 film, American Graffiti.

#MaSquad interns get the point! They are working on very interesting tax research projects this summer, and I cannot wait to hear their presentations.
