FRESNO, Calif. (August 28th, 2019) — The Andrew Janz for Mayor campaign has sent a cease and desist letter to the Fresno County Board of Supervisors who recently proposed a new rule that would prevent County employees from running for office.
The proposed rule, which would require county employees to take unpaid leave, makes exceptions for county employees already in office as well as department heads. Authors of the proposal have made it specifically clear they are targeting Andrew.
If the rule is passed, as a Mayoral candidate and County employee, Andrew and his expectant wife risk losing their health insurance just months before their daughter is due.
“The Board of Supervisors would be committing a gross abuse of power, but also an illegal one should they pass this. People should not be penalized for wanting to serve their community. I will not stand by and let this happen to myself or any other county employee who wishes to run for office,” said Janz, “My wife is pregnant with our first child and losing our healthcare would be devastating and dangerous. I’ve always stood up for what’s right and this is no exception.”
The Andrew Janz for Mayor Campaign is prepared to take legal action should the motion pass.
