In the June primary election, a small group of billionaires outspent our campaign 3-to-1 in order to defeat Tony and advance the Betsy DeVos education agenda. But their plan to buy this election didn’t work. The billionaires’ candidate failed to receive over 50% of the vote. Now he and Tony are running neck and neck in the November runoff.
The billionaires will break the bank again to elect Tony’s opponent, so today we are launching our people-powered response: Ten for Tony – Beat the Billionaires.
Ten for Tony is a grassroots fundraising campaign to beat the billionaires and elect Tony Thurmond, the only candidate who will fight to keep public schools public. By signing up today to give $10 or more per month until November, you will contribute critical funds that allow Tony to get his message out to California voters.
$10 a month for five months = $50 for Tony. That might not seem like a lot compared to the billionaires, but our strength is in our numbers. Think about this:
- If every Democratic delegate who voted for Tony to receive the Democratic Party endorsement gave $10 a month, we’d raise $121,950.
- If every person who follows Tony on Facebook gave $20 a month, we’d raise over $1 million.
And that doesn’t even begin to cover the hundreds of thousands of educators, parents, students, and progressives who we can reach with your help.
