Last week Republicans in Congress once again caved to the NRA, failing to use the power of their majority to pass critical gun control legislation as part of the omnibus spending bill.
Democrats are not faultless — they refused to use their leverage to demand reforms, too.
Studies and polls all show that Americans are ready for serious action on gun control. Support for universal background checks in America is nearly unanimous, yet Congress still fails to act.
The brave and heroic Parkland high school students have moved our nation to March for Our Lives, and to vote in November.
I pledge to stand by them every step of the way, and to be a thorn in the NRA’s side every day. These kids deserve common sense gun reforms like universal background checks, period.

Background checks aren’t just about guns — they need to cover anyone looking to purchase what actually fuels these massacres – ammunition.
That’s why I’m proud we passed legislation requiring background checks on the sale of ammunition in the state of California, and why I won’t stop until we pass the same kind of law nationwide.
MIchael, we both know how dysfunctional Washington, DC is right now. But the future leaders of our nation are speaking up, and we’re standing with them.
