I know we’ve been emailing a fair amount this week, so I wanted to let you know why these messages are so important — especially right now.

In 2018, my race was the closest House contest in the state of California. It was also the last congressional race called in the entire country. We went toe-to-toe with Republican super PACs and our opponent’s corporate donors, but your grassroots momentum carried us to an upset win.

In fact, the majority of the money we raised to knock extra doors and run last-minute TV ads came from a ton of folks chipping in what they could on emails — just like this one you’re reading today.

Here’s the truth (and this part is important): The Republicans were not expecting our grassroots surge. But this time they are. That means if our fundraising slips, like it is right now, it can be disastrous to our chances. That’s why these emails are so important, and it’s why I’m asking you again today:

Today is the FINAL day of our 72-hour fundraising drive to get back on track. We’re close to our goal, but we still need some help. Can you make a donation of $10 before our midnight deadline? Your support will send a message that our grassroots energy is as strong as ever.

I’ve said this before, but I can’t thank you enough for everything you’ve done to make our progress possible. The work we’re doing to protect our planet. Our ability to advocate for the wellbeing of those with pre-existing conditions. The tangible steps we’ve taken to make our communities safer and our democracy stronger — none of it is possible without your continued support.
