Precinct Officers

Serve at the polls on Election Day. Fresno County recruits approximately 1600 people to assist voters on Election Day. If you are a team player who wishes to serve your community while earning some extra money, we could use your help.

Are you bilingual?
Fresno County Elections Office provides election materials in English and Spanish at every polling place on Election Day. Some precincts in Fresno County require that we provide translated election materials in the following languages: Hindi, Khmer, Chinese, and Japanese. To equally assist all voters on Election Day, individuals who speak one of the following languages are encouraged to apply:

  • Spanish
  • Hindi
  • Khmer
  • Chinese
  • Japanese

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 18 years old, and a registered voter in the State of California, or
  • 18 years old and a Lawful Permanent Resident (Green Card Holder) living in California, (AB817).
  • Speak, read, and write fluent English.
  • Attend a 2.5 hour MANDATORY training class per election.
  • Have transportation to and from the polling place on Election Day.
  • Have a telephone.
  • Able to work on Election Day from 6:00 a.m. to approx. 9:30 p.m.

DUTIES:

  • Prepare, open and close the polling place location.
  • Locate voter names on the roster.
  • Issue and receive official ballots from voters.
  • Assist voters in all phases of the voting process.
  • Perform all required duties as assigned by the Precinct Inspector, or Registrar of Voters.

Additional Duties Performed by Inspectors:

  • Receive and inspect supplies at a distribution center prior to Election Day.
  • Contact Precinct Board and Polling Place facility prior to Election Day.
  • Oversee the polling place and precinct board on Election Day.
  • Assign duties and breaks to clerks on Election Day.
  • Deliver supplies to a drop off site on Election Night.

Student Precinct Officer Program
Learn While You Earn $150.00

The Fresno County Student Precinct Officer Program provides high school students with an exciting opportunity to serve as a precinct officer on Election Day. As a student precinct officer you can earn community service credit, receive $150.00, and participate in the democratic process. To serve in the June 7, 2016 Presidential Primary Election, students can submit their application beginning January 4, 2016. Selected students will receive an assignment notice in mid-April informing them of their assigned polling place along with the date and time of their scheduled 2 hour mandatory precinct officer training.

Qualifications:

  • 16 years of age at the time of election.
  • A United States citizen.
  • A student in good standing attending a public or private secondary educational institution.
  • Able to speak, read, and write fluent English
  • A JUNIOR or SENIOR with a GPA of at least 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Able to attend a 2.5 hour MANDATORY training class per election.
  • Have transportation to and from the polling place on Election Day.
  • Have a telephone.
  • Able to work on Election Day from 6:00 a.m. to approximately 9:30 p.m.
  • A signed application by the student, parent, and a teacher or counselor.

Duties:

  • Prepare, open and close the polling place location.
  • Locate voter names on the roster.
  • Issue and receive official ballots from voters.
  • Assist voters in all phases of the voting process.
  • Perform all required duties as assigned by the Precinct Inspector or Registrar of Voters.
