Dear Friend,

Yesterday, Governor Jerry Brown declared a state of emergency as wildfires rage on, mobilizing the National Guard to join California’s brave first responders. Over 1,500 homes have been destroyed. 20,000 Northern Californians have evacuated, and nearly 100,000 acres are burning so far. In Orange County, more than 5,000 people have evacuated their homes.

I’m proud to be a Californian — because in these times of struggle and tragedy we unite as a powerful community to help others. I hope you will join me and make a contribution to the Red Cross by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS.

Here are ways you can help:

Visit shelters in Northern California and drop off supplies: clean drinking water, toothbrushes, toothpaste, sleeping bags, cuts, pillows, blankets or flashlights.

Volunteer with the Red Cross.

Make a quick, one-time donation of $10 by texting REDCROSS to 90999.

Post on the Tubbs Fire Facebook Page the services you can offer as help.

Donate to local animal shelters, which are helping people keep their pets safe.

Here is the list of evacuation centers and road closures in Sonoma/Napa.

California has been hit by record droughts, floods, and wildfires, and our state needs to devise the strategies and structures needed to weather any disaster. There is no more important job than protecting the safety and well-being of residents and families across the state.

Our hearts go out to everyone affected by these wildfires. Please share this email with friends to get the word out on how you can help.

Sincerely,

Eleni,
