Last year, at Rep. Tom McClintock’s Roseville town hall, young DREAMer and student-activist Doris Romero did what we beg every young person to do: she got engaged in the political process. In front of over 1,700 local activists, she bravely told Rep. McClintock her family’s story and how badly she wants to take part in a legal pathway to citizenship while remaining in college and her home.
His callous and insensitive reply caused her to burst into tears:
“She should obey our immigration laws, return to her own country and apply for admission the way millions of legal immigrants have done for generations.”
There are 1,300 DREAMers in our district and 2,500 are eligible for the DACA program. These hardworking young people contribute $71 million to our local economy. They came to this country through no choice of their own, and it is the only home they’ve ever known. How can President Trump and Rep. McClintock allow them to be deported so heartlessly?
We deserve better than this. Regina would be the ONLY member of Congress with comprehensive experience on the front lines of our immigration system, and the only person to have even issued visas. She has the credibility and hands-on experience we need to fight for our nation’s DREAMers.
