The Fresno County Democratic Central Committee has not endorsed any candidate in this race.
We know what happens when people cannot afford health care. Too often they abandon preventive care, and often use the emergency room as their doctor, with devastating results for their well-being and their budget. It’s also not a sustainable situation for hospitals.
I believe that health care for all should be a right, not a privilege reserved for the wealthy.
While the Affordable Care Act was a step in the right direction, it still left many without health care. Now, with Republicans threatening to end the Affordable Care Act, California cannot wait. We must create our own system that insures all Californians. That is why I am proud to support SB 562, The Healthy California Act.
The Healthy California Act will create a single payer system for ALL Californians, so no one is left behind. Studies show that when people have access to preventive care, it saves lives and dollars in the long term. The United States is one of only a few countries in the world that doesn’t offer basic health care to all; that must end now in California.
