| The Young Councilmember Program brings together select young people throughout Fresno City Council District One to be a part of a cohort to develop leadership skills. The program will educate and challenge participants in their understanding of community, agriculture, business, development, law enforcement, and medicine. Most importantly, young people will get a unique insight on how local government functions in relation to state and federal government. This program will help build and expand the networks of our young participants to serve as a foundation for their educational and professional careers.
Curriculum and Programming
- Monthly Saturday sessions at Fresno City Hall – Council Chambers (2600 Fresno St., Fresno 93721). Sessions will remain at this location and you must provide your own transportation to and from City Hall. Some sessions will require additional transportation for a field trip, which will be arranged and provided for all participants. Saturday sessions will begin promptly at 9AM and last 3-4 hours, depending on the issue area or field trip.
- This program is of no cost to participants or their families. All we ask is that you dedicate yourself to attending all sessions and actively participate in the program. All materials, meals, and field trip transportation is provided.
- At each Saturday session, a specific topic of discussion is the focal point and we will incorporate a guest speaker or a field trip centered on the topic.
- The Young Councilmember Program is open to all high school students living in Fresno City Council District One and/or who attend Central High or Fresno High School. Those interested must fill out an application DUE by SEPT. 29th, 2017.15 students will be selected to participate in the program.
