Trump and his Wall Street advisors are “looking at every angle” for ways to fire the Director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

His name is Richard Cordray. As the head of the CFPB, he developed new lending standards designed to prevent another financial crisis and enforced laws that prevent big banks from using shady, predatory practices to deceive you or someone you care about. His work has made him many enemies on Wall Street.

If they succeed, they will be able to replace Cordray with someone who can dismantle the agency from the inside, destroying one of the few checks of power left on Donald Trump and the big banks.

We cannot allow that to happen, which is why I’m asking:

Can you add your name to our petition demanding Trump retain Cordray and stop his shortsighted attacks on the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau?

The CFPB is the brainchild of my friend Elizabeth Warren, who designed the agency to get “the tricks and traps out of mortgages, credit cards, and other financial products.”

Since then, they’ve returned more than $12 billion to working people who were cheated by the big banks.

The creation of the agency is one of the landmarks of President Obama’s time in office. Republicans hate it and special interests fear it because protecting you and your family from fraud means Wall Street executives can’t pocket millions of dollars from their scams.

That’s why we cannot allow Trump and Wall Street special interests to fire Cordray and gut the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

Add your name to my urgent petition in support of the CFPB and the progress we have made on protecting consumers, like you and me.

No matter what happens, I am going to keep fighting in Washington to build an economy that works for everyone and a government that defends the voiceless and vulnerable in our society. I’m very glad you’re a part of this movement.

Fight on,

Kamala Harris
U.S. Senator, California
