Esmeralda Soria’s Campaign Continues to Surge With Campaign Finance Report Showing Deep Grassroots Strength

An early preview of Soria’s first campaign finance report shows a formidable grassroots campaign with Soria raising $150,000 from individual donors with NO corporate PAC money

FRESNO, C.A. – Today, the Soria for Congress 2020 campaign released an early preview of the campaign’s fundraising totals covering July 1, 2019, to September 30th, 2019.

The finance report, Soria’s first since announcing her candidacy, underscored the strength of her grassroots network and widespread support in the 16th Congressional District. Soria raised $150,000 from individual donors, all while adhering to her pledge to reject contributions from corporate PACs.

Councilmember Soria’s fundraising stands in stark contrast to her opponent Congressman Jim Costa. Despite serving 8 terms in Congress, Soria raised significantly more from individual contributors than Costa did in either of his first two quarters of fundraising this year.  During the 1st quarter, Costa raised $49,600 from individuals and $110,750 in his 2nd quarter. Instead, Costa has relied heavily on money from corporate PACs and committees.

“I made a promise to reject the status quo of corporate PACs and focus on representing the working families of my district. I am humbled by the overwhelming support from people in the Valley and their willingness to stand with me as we seek change in our community,” said Councilmember Esmeralda Soria.

Soria’s fundraising announcement comes just days after handing Costa a stunning defeat at the California Democratic Party Pre-Endorsement Conference.  In a dramatic display of grassroots strength, Soria won enough support from local Democratic Party delegates to deny Costa the Party endorsement, a major blow to Costa who has counted on support from the Party throughout his 40-year career in elected office.
