Yesterday, at his confirmation hearing to lead the Environmental Protection Agency, Andrew Wheeler acknowledged he hasn’t even read the full report written by experts at his own agency on climate change.
Sometimes I can be a slow reader, but this is ridiculous. No captain should take the helm without preparing for the journey.
Any leader who wants to lead a federal agency needs to be willing to do the job — and that includes doing the homework and actually reading.
Then again, maybe Wheeler doesn’t want to read the latest climate report because he doesn’t want to face the facts: that climate change is already having devastating effects on our planet, and that the EPA isn’t doing nearly enough to stop it.
In California, we’ve sued the EPA 12 times to protect our environment and defend the progress we’ve made on climate change.
We’ve forced the Trump administration to measure greenhouse gas emissions on highways. We’ve stopped significant methane pollution on public lands. We’ve pushed the EPA to disclose areas across our nation with unhealthy smog levels. And we’re still fighting to defend clean car standards, save President Obama’s Clean Power Plan and more.
With another climate denier about to lead the EPA, our environmental work is more urgent than ever. Contribute $5 now to help me keep defending our environment and addressing the threat of climate change.
Thank you,
Xavier
