ED HERNANDEZ LINES UP MORE NORCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT SUPPORT IN LG BID
San Jose Police Officers’ Association Joins Peace Officers Research Association of California (PORAC), Sacramento Police Officers’ Association and California Reserve Peace Officers Association in Picking Senator Hernandez for California Lieutenant Governor

LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CA — Further validating his strong public safety credentials, today State Senator Dr. Ed Hernandez secured a key Northern California endorsement from the San Jose Police Officers’ Association in his campaign for California Lieutenant Governor. The South Bay law enforcement group joins a broad coalition of public safety organizations backing Senator Hernandez’ bid, including the Peace Officers Research Association of California (PORAC), Sacramento Police Officers’ Association and California Reserve Peace Officers Association.

In a letter sent to Senator Hernandez’ campaign, Paul Kelly, President of the San Jose Police Officers’ Association wrote:

“Dear Dr. Ed Hernandez: On behalf of the San Jose Police Officers’ Association (SJPOA), it is my pleasure to inform you of our unanimous endorsement of your candidacy for California Lieutenant Governor 2018.”

Expressing his gratitude for the endorsement, Senator Hernandez released the following statement:

“I really appreciate this support from the San Jose Police Officers’ Association. Their endorsement underscores my deep commitment to public safety and neighborhood security. As a state lawmaker, I’ve always been a firm believer in supporting the men and women who have sworn to protect our local communities, and I’ve worked to do everything in my power to ensure that they have the resources and tools they need to do their job and keep neighborhoods safe. I plan to continue this effort if I’m given the honor of serving as California’s next Lieutenant Governor.”

Today’s announcement follows recent endorsements from State Assembly Members Kansen Chu and Laura Friedman, as well as the Fontana Democratic Club, Helen L. Doherty Democratic Club and the West End Democratic Club. It also comes on the heels of recent news that the California State Legislature passed Senator Dr. Hernandez’ landmark SB-17, a drug transparency bill, which aims to address the cost of life-saving prescription drugs. The bill won widespread bi-partisan support.

Senator Hernandez’ latest digital video ad, titled, “Life or Death,” features a moving testimonial from Kendall Renee, a nationally renowned activist and singer, who is allergic to more than 95% of foods and carries at least four EpiPens with her at all times.

Unshaken by big moneyed special interests, Hernandez not only has taken on Big Pharma but also fought Big Tobacco, as the architect of California’s landmark law to raise the state’s smoking age to 21.

In addition to today’s news, Senator Hernandez has raised over $2 million for the statewide effort and has locked in far-reaching support across California.

Beyond today’s announcement, Senator Dr. Hernandez’ campaign has released an expansive list of over 400 endorsements from grassroots activists, community leaders, federal, state and local elected officials, public safety groups and close to 50 labor unions.

A husband, father, grandfather, practicing optometrist, and local businessman, “Dr. Ed” (as he is known to his patients) has spent his life bringing quality eye care to predominantly low-income communities.  As a health care provider, the need to improve access to health care for all Californians is what first drove him to run for office.

Since being elected to the Assembly in 2006 and the Senate in 2010, Dr. Ed Hernandez has been a leader on the implementation of federal health care reform – helping expand access to affordable health care, control costs, and improve the network of providers so people can actually get quality care when they need it. Dr. Ed has been a champion by expanding educational opportunity to qualified students overlooked by our public schools and universities, as well as a major proponent for government reform, including fixing a broken initiative system too often hijacked by billionaires and wealthy corporations. Dr. Ed Hernandez is running to take this experience, leadership, and vision to the next level by serving the people of California as their Lieutenant Governor.
