As we get closer to November 6 – Election Day, our team would like to tell you about Dr. Ed’s record on key policy issues he’s taken as an elected official.
On clean energy and environmental protection, he’s championed numerous laws during his 12 years as a State Legislator to benefit our pristine natural resources and the health and well-being of California families.
Endorsed by environmental rights champions former Assemblymember Betsy Butler and former Senator Fran Pavley, he will stand up for our environment.
Here are a few key environmental votes that he’s taken as an elected official:
OFFSHORE OIL
He supported SB 834 (Jackson) that blocks the Trump Administration’s new push to open up coastal oil drilling, and prohibits new onshore development to support that drilling.
CLEANENERGY
He supported SB 350 and SB 100 that set new 100% targets for clean energy and climate pollution reductions in the electricity sector.
CLIMATE TARGETS
He supported SB 32 (2016) that extended the AB 32 climate targets to 2030 and set more stringent pollution reduction standards.
AIR POLLUTION
He voted for AB 617 (2017) that targets local pollution in poor communities and helps reduce asthma and other diseases in kids. This was a major priority of environmental groups and others.
CLEAN DRINKING WATER
He was the co-author for and voted in support of SB 623, which created a fund to prioritize clean drinking water to families in disadvantaged communities throughout California.

About Dr. Ed
He’s running for Lieutenant Governor to make the California Dream a reality for all families throughout this state. He grew up in the working-class community of La Puente in East Los Angeles. While raising his daughter, he worked my way through college and eventually built a successful small family business providing eye care with his wife, Diane.
As a healthcare provider and State Legislator, he’s spent my career advocating for quality, affordable healthcare and universal coverage for all. He’s also worked closely with advocates to bring down the cost of public higher education and provide one year of free community college. He believes that by bringing equity to both of these areas, Californians will be able to achieve economic security.
In addition, he’s fought Big Tobacco, passing California’s law that increased the smoking age to 21 years old. He’s stood up to Big Oil, supporting our landmark environmental laws and taken on Big Pharma, championing lower prescription drug prices.
He’s proud to be endorsed by over 80 organizations representing working people, including firefighters, teachers and nurses. He has two daughters, Valerie and Jennifer, three grandchildren and numerous grand-pups.
