Just this week a recent study found that millions of Americans are facing double-digit increases in their health insurance premiums.
This is in no small part thanks to the chaos and uncertainty Trump’s attacks on our health care have created — and the complete inability of the Republicans to work with Democrats on a compromise that would make health care a fundamental right for everyone, not just the wealthy few.
Many of my colleagues have promising proposals to solve this crisis. Two of those problem-solvers, Tim Kaine from Virginia and Martin Heinrich from New Mexico, are facing tough reelection fights in 2018.
Tim Kaine is building support for his proposal to offer Americans a public option and my colleague Martin Heinrich is working with me to advance Medicare for All legislation. Because of this, both have become targets of many far-right Republican groups who would rather cut taxes for the top 1% than ensure all Americans have health care coverage.
This is a moral outrage and we need to make sure Tim Kaine and Martin Heinrich not only win in 2018 but that Democrats retake Congress next year and reset Washington’s broken priorities.
Tim Kaine and Martin Heinrich have been reliable allies in our fight to stop Trump’s agenda, on issues from health care to taxes to opposing the Administration’s radical nominees.
It would be devastating if we lost them in 2018 because we couldn’t match the fury of Republican super PACs. That’s why I’m hopeful you’ll step up, just as you have so many times this year, to help them.
