We have a homelessness crisis here in the valley.
The Fresno City Council declared a homeless shelter emergency last year. But incumbent Republican mayor Lee Brand’s solution is to put signs up around town telling people not to give to panhandlers.
It’s time to get real.
We need an in-depth plan that will reduce homelessness, by creating jobs for working people, funding mental health services, creating affordable housing, and developing programs to help people to employment.
If you agree that it’s time for our elected officials to get real and develop concrete plans to end homelessness, then sign our petition immediately:
I pledge to end homelessness by 50% in my first term, once elected mayor.
But to do that we need an all-of-the-above strategy to make it happen.
Many of Fresno’s homeless people are veterans with PTSD, stigmatized LGBT individuals, and people with mental health and addiction problems. We need to compassionately invest in real mental health and addiction services.
And once people get clean we must make sure that there are jobs available and housing that’s affordable.
