Convention Preview
As we announced in our first Convention Preview, we are incorporating thematic programming blocks into General Session. We’re delighted to announce the first programming block, slated for Saturday Afternoon General Session, will be devoted to
Celebrating Black Voters
It’s impossible to overstate the importance of Black Voters to the Democratic Party. The only reason Doug Jones became the first Democrat to win a Senate race in Alabama in nearly 30 years is because 98% of Black women voted for him, and there are countless examples where Black Voters were the crucial margin of victory for Democratic candidates.
Our Party is, and must be, a place where Black Lives Matter, where Black Voters are respected and valued, and where Black Leaders have a seat at the table at every level. We’re proud to announce the following leaders will be featured in the program:
Dr. Shirley Webber
California State Assembly,
District 79
Darren Parker
Chair, California Democratic
Party African American Caucus
Alice Huffman
President, California NAACP
Reginald Jones-Sawyer, Sr.
California State Assembly,
District 59
Yvonne Walker
President,
SEIU Local 1000
These phenomenal Black Leaders have contributed so much to our state, and we are grateful for their participation in Celebrating Black Voters. We’re also looking forward to announcing additional speakers in the coming days, including two of California’s rising stars who have earned national accolades for their creative, thoughtful and inspirational leadership.
And we are thrilled to take this opportunity to announce the first of our Convention Keynote Speakers – Representative Maxine Waters.
Long before she became the unofficial voice of the Resistance, Maxine Waters was fighting for justice and firing up Democrats in California. We are honored and excited to welcome her back to the CDP Convention Stage as Keynote Speaker.
Up Next…
Our next Convention Preview will announce more Keynote Speakers. We’re looking forward to seeing you in San Diego!
