Fellow Democrats,
Freedom of religion is a bedrock issue for millions of Americans. The same goes for us in California.
Senator Ricardo Lara understands this. It’s why he authored California’s landmark Religious Freedom Act, SB 31, which prevents California agencies from sharing information that could potentially be used to compile a federal registry based on religion, ethnicity or national origin.
When Ricardo said, “Targeting people by religion violates the California Constitution and the U.S. Constitution and I’m not going to wait for President Trump before we take action,” he was speaking to me, as a Muslim American, along with millions of other Californians who cherish their religious freedom.
We have a man in the Oval Office who is a known racist, a bigot and a person who favors hate over unity. Senator Ricardo Lara’s law helps to combat the President’s hate, while protecting me, and millions of Californians from Donald Trump.
We need leaders like Senator Ricardo Lara serving in statewide office to continue fighting for every Californian, no matter who they are or where they come from.
That’s why I’m proud to strongly endorse Senator Lara for California State Insurance Commissioner.
The son of immigrants who came here undocumented, Ricardo uniquely understands the challenges that so many Californians face, ranging from discrimination to struggling to make ends meet and more.
