Climate change must be a priority

Climate change has become a top priority for families inside and outside of this district. As hurricanes become worse across our Eastern shores and wildfires rage across the West, families across the country are losing their homes and livelihoods at no fault of their own.

Republicans, like my opponent Kevin Cookingham, will tell you that climate change is a myth designed to destroy the fossil fuel industry.

Democrats acknowledge the negative effects of climate change, but continue to move slowly to enact robust policies to lessen its effects.

Climate change is a time-sensitive issue. We can no longer slow walk solutions to lessen its effects and must take bold action now if we are going to have any chance of saving our planet.

President Trump’s decision to leave the Paris Climate Accord is a decision that will impact future generations in ways that none of us can accurately predict.

That’s why as a member of Congress I will make it a priority to:

·  Phase out our reliance on fossil fuels

·  Provide funding for infrastructure to protect our shrinking shorelines

·  Create new pathways to employment for those that currently work in the fossil fuel industry
