CADEM Chair Rusty Hicks Issues Statement on President Joe Biden’s Joint Address to Congress

California Democratic Party Logo

California Democratic Party Chair Rusty Hicks issued the following statement on President Joe Biden’s first address to Congress:

Just a few months ago, we elected a president who leads with empathy, decency, and the profound belief in all of us. We elected a president who called upon the best in all of us. With that came the courage to measure ourselves not by the fear we’ve endured over the past year but the hope that we’ve restored within the last 100 days.

When President Biden took office, he promised the American people that help was on the way. Now, 100 days into his administration, Biden and Democrats have delivered on that promise. In his first 100 days, President Biden immediately acted to get America back on track. And on this road to recovery, he re-envisioned a democracy that could withstand the crisis that faces our nation.

Together, Democratic leaders worked to deliver real, tangible results by vaccinating 200 million Americans, rebuilding a better, fairer and stronger economy, providing direct relief to help working families, and reinvesting in our future by reducing child poverty.

Through the American Rescue Plan, the American Jobs Plan, and the American Families Plan, Democrats have made it clear that by standing together we can build an America that works for all of us.

DONATE NOW Our Democratic leaders are working hard to make California a better place to live. From fighting for good-paying jobs, combating climate change, to expanding healthcare access so all Californians can lead safe, healthy, prosperous lives — California’s Democratic leaders turn progressive ideas into meaningful action.

In memory of George Floyd:

We are calling on all California Democrats to stand up, speak out, and take action.

California Democratic Party Logo

Eight minutes and forty-six seconds.

For eight long minutes, George Floyd cried out for his mother before Derek Chauvin took his life without mercy, justice, or dignity.

Since then, our nation has experienced a racial reckoning. Today’s ruling was a step towards a more just future.

Yet, CADEM recognizes that there is still much more work to be done.

We have to do better. We must do better.

Now is the time to pass the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act. In memory of George Floyd: stand up, speak out, and take action.

It is incumbent upon all of us to fight against the deep-seated prejudice, discrimination, and structural racism that has long plagued our country.

For as long as Black people cannot breathe, we cannot and will not stop fighting to lift up Black voices.

In Solidarity,

California Democratic Party

Say his name: Daunte Wright

The California Democratic Party is committed to ending racism and violence perpetrated against Black people.

California Democratic Party Logo

This is a call to action — it is incumbent upon all of us to fight against the deep-seated prejudice, discrimination, and structural racism that has long plagued our country.

Daunte Wright should be alive today. No well meaning thoughts, hopeful prayers or profound tweets will bring him back. But in the face of this unspeakable tragedy, we can and must honor his memory by standing up, speaking out, and taking action.

For a lot of us — it starts at home and in our communities. Now is the time for positive change through collective action, and we will be undeterred by the efforts of those who will try to distract and divide us.

We can and will continue to have tough conversations at the kitchen table, support Black artists and creatives, and financially contribute to groups doing necessary work on the ground like Black Lives Matter, NAACP, and Color of Change, to name just a few.

George Floyd’s girlfriend once taught Daunte Wright in school — the tangled web of pain caused by the systemic failures of our justice system is inexcusable. Until traffic stops are no longer execution sites for Black and Brown people in America, we have fallen woefully short of our highest collective calling — to ensure “liberty and justice for all.”

The California Democratic Party is committed to ending the racism and violence perpetrated against Black people each and every day, creating culture change, tackling systemic racism, and lifting the voices of underserved communities across California through CADEM’s Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion program.

As long as they cannot breathe, we cannot and will not rest.

In solidarity,

California Democratic Party

Congratulations Rob Bonta

His dedication to empowering underrepresented communities makes him the right choice for California.

California Democratic Party Logo

The California Democratic Party (CADEM) congratulates Rob Bonta on his appointment as California’s first Filipino American Attorney General. Rob represents what makes California great: the desire to take on righteous fights, reverse systemic injustices, and stand up to hate. Help elect more Democrats » At an early age, Rob watched as his parents joined Cesar Chavez and Dolores Huerta as organizers of the United Farm Workers of America.

As an attorney, Rob carried the legacy of his family by working pro-bono to protect Californians against racial injustice.

Throughout his career, he has paved the way for all communities – serving as the first Filipino American elected to the State Legislature, fighting on the forefront against corporate greed, standing up to for-profit prisons, and working to tackle climate change.

In this moment when we see a sickening rise in attacks on the AAPI community, Rob has been on the frontlines of efforts to strengthen our hate crime laws and build bridges of trust throughout California.

If you’re ready to help elect more people-powered leaders like Rob, chip in today. Your contributions help fund the year-round work of organizing in communities across our great state.

Fighting for the people is a continuous action and we need you by our side. So will you join California Democrats in fighting the good fight? If you’ve saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately:

Congratulations Secretary Becerra!

Secretary Xavier Becerra will make California proud at the Dept. of Health & Human Services

California Democratic Party Logo

California Democratic leaders are working hard to help every person across the nation recover from the COVID-19 crisis. That’s why today’s confirmation of Xavier Becerra to lead the Department of Health and Human Services is critical to reimagining and rebuilding a public health system for all.

Becerra has always been at the forefront – fighting for underserved communities, healthcare and justice. He took on the Trump administration and their agenda to roll back protections for workers, he defended the Affordable Care Act against Republican attempts to end it and he has always held strong to protecting women’s health. As the first Latino to helm the Dept of HHS, he has been and will continue to be a stalwart champion for reimagining and rebuilding a more equitable health care system that meets the needs of the people.

We know that the road to recovery won’t be an easy one. However, when California Democrats are in leadership roles, we put the people first!

Fighting for the people is a continuous action and we need you by our side. So will you join California Democrats in fighting the good fight? CADEM is doubling down on our work year-round to continue long term investments in organizing Democrats across the state and electing people powered leaders like Xavier Becerra. That’s why we need you to stand with us today. Will you chip in $10 right now to help build our organizing infrastructure and put more groundbreaking Democrats in office?

Onward!
