FRESNO—Earlier this week, Donald Trump gave yet another disturbing speech outlining his plans for the country’s immigrant population. His approach has been under scrutiny from the day he announced his campaign with a speech that labeled all but “some” Mexican immigrants as rapists and drug dealers. Since then, his platform has expanded to include proposals for empowering a special “Deportation Task Force” to round up and expel millions of people, as well as revoke the citizenship of 4 million people born in the United States to immigrant parents.
Other Trump proposals are even more alarming, from subjecting all immigrants to religious tests in order to gather information for a ban on all Muslims, to eliminating our country’s foundational law of birthright citizenship, the promise that anyone born in America can never be declared to not be American.
“We are greatly disturbed by the vitriol being disseminated by Trump and his campaign,” says Michael D. Evans, chair of the Fresno County Democratic Party.
To distract from his recent embarrassments, Trump flipped to attacking Hillary Clinton, transforming her policy promise of bipartisan immigration reform into a doom-filled vision of “mass amnesty” and “open borders.” The fact-checking organization Politifact called Trump’s analysis of Clinton’s plan “Pants on Fire.”
Even Clinton’s promise to provide aid and shelter for refugees of war and violence attracted Trump’s ire. He both claimed that the U.S. government is incapable of vetting such refugees and that the money Clinton has pledged for programs to help integrate foreign immigrants, some part of a total $15 million, is enough to “rebuild every inner city in America.” Trump has marketed himself as an expert businessperson, so this sounds even more odd when compared to his plan of an estimated $25 billion concrete wall along the Mexican border. As Pope Francis said regarding this issue, “A person who thinks only about building walls, wherever they may be, and not building bridges, is not Christian. This is not the gospel.”
Clinton, on the other hand, received endorsements from two more retired Four-Star Generals. They, like many before them, were drawn by her diplomatic experience and commitment to the global alliances that have made America the leader of the free world as well as being repelled by Trump’s past harsh treatment of military veterans. Trump’s chief policy adviser indicated that a Trump administration would end many government-provided services to veterans by moving to privatize the VA.
“Trump simply does not reflect American values,” said Evans. “We need competent, responsible, effective leadership now more than ever.”

This week I attended the Annual Lake Tahoe Summit in Stateline, Nevada. President Obama spoke to an audience of 7,000, including Senators Barbara Boxer, Diane Feinstein, and Harry Reid. These leaders are truly dedicated to preserving the clarity of the Lake, one of the few remaining large clean mountain lakes on the planet.
Over the past 2 decades, it has taken over 2 billion dollars and the work of thousands of devoted individuals from dozens of agencies and organization to “Keep Tahoe Blue”.
This effort has been successful. Millions of visitors enjoy the clear beautiful waters every year, contributing billions of dollars to the local economy.
But our work is not over: sediment reduction, invasive marine species removal, fire risk reduction by brush removal and scientific tree spacing, all cost money. The lake has warmed 4 degrees just recently, making Lake protection even more challenging and critical.
Senators from California and Nevada have introduced the Tahoe Restoration Act, providing $ 415 million in funding over the next 10 years for continued protection.
In contrast, our current Congressman, Tom McClintock has introduced his own bill in the House of Representatives. His bill provides only $60 million over 10 years. His bill falls significantly short of the resources required to continue the work started 20 years ago. It is not nearly enough to do the job and it, once again, demonstrates a lack of understanding of what is needed in District 4 to protect our environmental treasures.
I support the Senate Act and the $415 million needed to “Keep Tahoe Blue,” and I pledge to you that I will do everything I can to protect this special place for everyone.
Thanks,
Bob

Hillary for America Statement on Trump’s Anti-Immigrant Speech
Hillary for America National Latino Vote Director Lorella Praeli released the following statement on Donald Trump’s anti-immigrant hateful speech in Arizona:
“In his darkest speech yet, Donald Trump doubled down on his anti-immigrant rhetoric and attempted to divide communities by pitting people against each other and demonizing immigrants. Trump committed to sending a new “Deportation Task Force” into American communities, rescinding the President’s executive actions to protect DREAMers and their families, building a wall that he continues to claim will be paid for by Mexico, and made clear that “Operation Wetback” was not severe enough. The only immigrants allowed in the future are those that pass Donald Trump’s own test of ‘desirability.’
“Donald Trump once again showed us that he will continue his decades-long record of divisiveness and campaign of hate by pledging to forcibly remove every single undocumented immigrant from our country. He showed us, very clearly, what’s at stake in this election by painting a picture of his idea of America: one in which immigrants are not welcomed and one in which innocent families are torn apart.”
We all expect to have clean tap water in our homes. Without current EPA water standards, we would risk becoming ill from contaminated water and spend time and money in Emergency Rooms.
Because of current EPA regulations, most public water systems do a good job protecting the public by eliminating bacteria and other germs that could cause acute diseases.
However, chronic exposure to chemical pollutants in water can be disastrous. Lead poisoning lowers the IQ of our children and causes learning disorders. Arsenic shortens our life expectancy. Industrial solvents cause cancer.
My opponent, Tom McClintock, has consistently voted against clean water measures. In fact, he has voted to make it easier for big polluters to legally pollute water by weakening current regulation standards.
As a doctor I care about your health. I pledge to fight for clean water and to give the Environmental Protection Agency the teeth it needs to do its job.
Thank you for your support, and please donate to help make my campaign for the US Congress a success.
Thanks,
Bob
