Health care is a right for all, not just a privilege for the wealthy.

As governor, I will build a health care system that not only works for everyone in California, but that specifically takes the necessary steps to move our state towards a single-payer system.

This monumental, but necessary challenge is going to take a leader who understands our state’s finances in and out, because if you can’t manage a budget, you’re not going to get single-payer passed. We also need a leader who has worked creatively to come up with solutions to our health care needs in the past.

As governor, I’ll be ready to make health care available to all Californians, but I need your help to start building momentum now.

Will you stand with me to make sure that Californians have access to the quality, affordable health care they not only need, but also deserve? Add your name now.

Last week, I released my California Road Map for Affordable and Accessible Health Care — a common sense, comprehensive plan to make single-payer health care a reality in our state by:

  • Protecting our care: As governor, I will stand up to those in Washington who would roll back the gains we have made or threaten our coverage and care. We will protect access to health care for all Californians and lead the charge for the rest of the country, to ensure we don’t lose ground.
  • Supporting Medicare for All: Every person has a right to affordable, high-quality health care. I support Bernie Sanders’ Medicare for All plan at the national level and will do everything in my power as governor to support its passage.
  • Moving California forward: While Congress debates Medicare for All, California should move forward with establishing a single-payer health care system with universal coverage, lower premiums and deductibles, and access to mental and behavioral care.
  • Taming costs and paying for outcomes: We must find ways to keep Californians healthy through preventive care, access to clean air and water, and more. Out-of-control drug costs must be controlled, and paying for healthy outcomes will reduce the need for services when Californians get sick.

We can move now on many of these necessary proposals without waiting for the federal action we’ll need to help finance a single-payer system, but it will take a leader with a record of coming up with creative solutions to our financial and logistical health care hurdles.

I’m ready to lead on single-payer health care for California, but I need your help. Will you stand with me to make sure every Californian has access to high-quality, affordable care?

Thanks for your support,

John

HERNANDEZ CONTINUES TO AMASS SUPPORT FROM WORKING PEOPLE

UC-AFT is Latest Labor Union Backing Ed Hernandez in Statewide Campaign

LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CA — On the heels of winning a powerhouse endorsement from the influential California Federation of Labor, today State Senator Ed Hernandez was backed by the University Council-American Federation of Teachers (UC-AFT) in his bid for California Lieutenant Governor.

UC-AFT is the representative of the more than 3,000 non-senate faculty and several hundred professional librarians who are employed at all ten campuses of the University of California.

In a statement released following the endorsement, UC-AFT Vice President for Legislation Axel Borg remarked:

“Throughout his career in public service, Senator Ed Hernandez has been a leader in California, fighting to improve our education system.  Time and time again, Dr. Ed has stood in solidarity with UC students and non-senate faculty, including lecturers and librarians, and we know he’ll continue to be a bold force as California’s next Lieutenant Governor, fighting for more higher education funding. We know we can count on Dr. Ed to advance a pro-worker, pro-public higher education agenda, and we’re excited to support his campaign.”

In February, Senator Hernandez was the top vote getter among delegates at the California Democratic Party convention. With 1,157 votes cast in his favor at the California Democratic Party convention, Senator Hernandez received more delegate votes than any candidate running for Governor of California, where the top vote getter earned 1,087 votes, as well as more votes than California’s incumbent U.S. Senator, who received 1,023. Senator Hernandez triumphed at convention despite not surpassing the high 60% vote threshold required to win the endorsement.

Recently, State Senator Dr. Ed Hernandez rolled out a new digital video ad, titled “Proven Progressive,” in his campaign for California Lieutenant Governor. The ad highlights some of the Senator’s high-powered endorsements, including from the California Nurses Association and the California Teachers Association, along with his 100% legislative voting scorecard from organizations like the California Labor Federation* and Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California Advocates*.

Significantly, recently California Governor Jerry Brown signed Senator Dr. Ed Hernandez’ groundbreaking drug transparency bill, SB-17, into law.  Senator Hernandez’ latest digital video ad, titled, “Life or Death,” features a moving testimonial from Kendall Renee, who is allergic to more than 95% of foods and carries at least four EpiPens with her at all times. Renee highlights Senator Hernandez’ efforts to combat skyrocketing drug costs in the ad.

A husband, father, grandfather, practicing optometrist, and local businessman, “Dr. Ed” (as he is known to his patients) has spent his life bringing quality eye care to predominantly low-income communities.  As a health care provider, the need to improve access to health care for all Californians is what first drove him to run for office.

Since being elected to the Assembly in 2006 and the Senate in 2010, Dr. Ed Hernandez has been a leader on the implementation of federal health care reform – helping expand access to affordable health care, control costs, and improve the network of providers so people can actually get quality care when they need it. Dr. Ed has been a champion by expanding educational opportunity to qualified students overlooked by our public schools and universities, as well as a major proponent for government reform, including fixing a broken initiative system too often hijacked by billionaires and wealthy corporations. Dr. Ed Hernandez is running to take this experience, leadership, and vision to the next level by serving the people of California as their Lieutenant Governor.

March for Science

*** No candidate for Lt. Governor has been endorsed by the CDP ***

Today, I joined activists around the world to advocate for science and facts, to stand in solidarity with vulnerable communities affected by natural disasters, and to resist the Trump Administration’s blatant rejection of truth. Yes – climate change is real.

The facts are right in front of us. From rising tides to wildfires, mudslides, and oil spills, we see the effects right here in California and even in our own backyards. Without action, our planet is at serious risk.

In early January, the Trump Administration launched an attack on California by threatening to expand offshore oil drilling off of our coasts. We’ve seen the devastating impacts of drilling, from the 3 million gallon spill off Santa Barbara in 1969 to Exxon Valdez and most recently the Deepwater Horizon disaster.

I hope you’ll join me by signing my petition to stop new oil drilling off of California’s coasts. This is about protecting the future for our children, our grandchildren, and beyond.

California’s Lieutenant Governor can take real action as a sitting member on the State Lands Commission. I firmly believe we need to end our dependence on fossil fuels, and unlike my opponents, I have pledged not to accept money from Big Oil. As Lieutenant Governor, I will fight to ban any new oil production off of California’s shoreline – because our coasts and oceans are not for sale.

If you agree we should stand up to Big Oil and the Trump Administration, please sign our petition today

The time to act is now.

Trapping voters

*** Alex Padilla has been endorsed for Secretary of State by the CDP ***

Alex Padilla

For too long, we’ve seen unprecedented attempts by Republican Governors and Legislatures in other states to trap voters in unfair, gerrymandered districts.

The GOP’s partisan gerrymandering has only one purpose: to keep Republicans in power at all costs.

The voices of voters are silenced through partisan gerrymandering, and it must end. That’s why we’re standing with Democrats nationwide to send a strong message to the GOP that we will fight their gerrymandering plot at every turn.

Stand with us and sign the petition today to end the GOP’s partisan gerrymandering!

Beyond partisan gerrymandering, Republican leaders proceed to purge voter roles and change election laws making it harder for eligible Americans to register and vote.

As California’s Secretary of State, I stood up to Trump and his attempts to roll back the clock on voting rights. So I know that we can combat these gerrymandering efforts by expanding voting access.

Sign the petition today and send a clear message to the GOP that we will fight to end their partisan gerrymandering and voter suppression!

Thank you for standing with me,

Alex Padilla

I’m going to be blunt about this, there’s a real chance President Trump fires Robert Mueller in the coming days or weeks. It’s important you know that’s a real possibility.

The good news is you can do something about it. There is strong, bipartisan support for newly introduced legislation that limits Trump’s ability to fire Mueller by allowing a three-judge panel to reinstate the special counsel.

I believe it has the votes to pass, but Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is refusing to even schedule a debate on this legislation.

I need your help to put pressure on Republican leaders to advance this bill and protect the Mueller investigation. Can I count you?

Add your name to my petition demanding Republicans schedule a vote on legislation to limit Trump’s ability to fire Mueller.

I said at a town hall earlier this month that I believe firing Mueller would be an impeachable offense for Trump. I stand by that statement — but I am hopeful we can take action now to ensure we never reach that point.

Thanks for making your voice heard.
