Knee on my neck…….until my last breath. George Floyd murdered in the street for all to see online. I searched for the words but they are lost in my tears. The tears I tucked away so no one could see them, or better so I would not feel them.
Say his name. George Floyd. Took me back to Sandra Bland.Say her name. Took me back to two-thirds a person and the Middle Passage. Black people.Say OUR name. No longer can I hide this pain away.
this is just a snapshot of the pain I’ve been feeling over the latest outbreak of racist police brutality. Our community is grieving, but we’re also rising up. At the California Democratic Party, we’re committed to listening, learning, healing, and fighting for a better future together.
RSVP NOW »On Saturday, we’ll be holding space where Black Leaders can share our lived experience on what it feels like to have someone’s knee on our neck metaphorically, and to celebrate our greatness and resilience in the face of systemic racism.
The disparities that show up for us … from housing to health, economics to education and the environment, and as we all know — in the criminal justice system — can no longer be denied.
