Trump is the Fraud

*** Alex Padilla has been endorsed for Secretary of State by the CDP ***Alex Padilla

During an event in Virginia yesterday, Trump said,

“In many places, like California, the same person votes many times. You probably heard about that. They always like to say ‘oh that’s a conspiracy theory.’ Not a conspiracy theory, folks. Millions and millions of people.”

Not true.

The real fraud is the occupant of the Oval Office.

Trump continues to spew his same old lies about “millions of illegal voters” in California.

Trump’s dishonesty and baseless rants about “widespread” voter fraud dishonor local elections officials and the thousands of volunteers who work hard and give of their time to administer our elections with integrity.

I spoke with CBS LA to counter Trump’s allegations of widespread voter fraud and point out how they undermine confidence in our elections. Watch the segment here.

We can not and will not let Trump’s lies go unanswered. And we will not let Trump’s attacks slow down our mission to secure our elections and defend our democracy.

Please support my ongoing efforts to resist Trump’s attacks and improve elections in California by making a $20 contribution today.  Together we can protect California from Trump’s efforts to erode our democracy.

Thank you,

Alex Padilla

Honoring Exceptional Women in District 1!

Women’s History Month
Celebrating District 1 Women!

Dr. Carole Goldsmith, Fresno City College President was honored as District 1 Woman of the Year by the City of Fresno, for her work over the last 20 years in education and her commitment to student excellence!

Dear Friends,

Each March, we celebrate Women’s History Month by remembering and by teaching a new generation about the vital contributions that women have made to our society – from winning universal voting rights to keeping our economy moving during World War II.

Overtime, women’s presence in the work arena has grown.  Today, we have women that are elected officials, attorneys, business owners, teachers, and scientists. I admire the sacrifices and battles women have fought to bring equity among the genders.  It is because of the battles of women that came before me that I am the first woman to represent Fresno City Council District One and the first Latina to serve as Council President.

This month we had the opportunity to honor not only the past achievements of American women but also recognize ordinary women in our City doing extraordinary work. Each of the women have and are making significant contributions to our local history. Most importantly, these women are leading the way for women that will come after them.  They are role models to our young girls and women. Congratulations on being honored!

Sincerely,
Esmeralda Soria

LORETTA SANCHEZ BACKS TOM PRATT FOR STATE SENATE
Democratic Leaders coalescing support around Pratt ahead of June Primary Election

MURPHYS, CA – Vallecito Union School Board Member, local businessman, and community leader Tom Pratt announced today that he has earned the support of Congresswoman (ret.) Loretta Sanchez.

“Tom Pratt is a diligent public servant who will put children and working families first. He’ll make an excellent State Senator, and I wholeheartedly support his campaign. I hope you’ll join me,” said Loretta Sanchez.

Like Ms. Sanchez, Tom will be a champion for public education. Tom is building a growing list of strong support which includes:

  • California State Controller Betty Yee
  • State Senate Leader Pro Tem Kevin de Leon
  • Assemblymember Richard Bloom
  • Charlie Brown, Air Force veteran and former Congressional candidate
  • The California Democratic Party
  • California Latina Democrats

With parents who never graduated college but always provided their children with the opportunity to succeed, Tom has demonstrated commitment throughout his career to education, hard work and civic duty. Tom has made a successful career in the insurance industry and taken on unexpected challenges, such as working to insure US embassies across the world after 9/11 and most recently to secure coverage for California residents who continue to lose their homeowners insurance due to fire risk. He moved to Murphys in 2008 to help care for his mother during her final weeks of terminal brain cancer. There, he met his wife Kimberly, got married and started a family. Tom’s life experience and values inspired him to run for school board, and today for the California State Senate.

CAMPAIGN TO CLOSE PROP 13 CORPORATE LOOPHOLE RECEIVES LARGEST ENDORSEMENT YET

The 950,000 member California Alliance for Retired Americans is the largest group to support the California Schools and Local Communities Funding Act

LOS ANGELES, CA – Today, the California Alliance for Retired Americans (CARA) announced its support for the California Schools and Local Communities Funding Act of 2018.  With over 950,000 members across California, CARA is a coalition of 275 affiliates working to educate and inform the public and elected officials about issues that affect the well being of California’s older adults.

“The California Alliance for Retired Americans supports the California Schools and Local Communities Funding Act because the Prop 13 corporate loophole has gutted funding for services that seniors rely on,” said CARA President Nan Brasmer. “The California Schools and Local Communities Funding Act protects seniors and retirees, reaffirms all of the vital protections that Proposition 13 puts in place for homeowners, while closing loopholes that primarily benefit a small number of large corporations. Let’s fix Proposition 13 and return it to what it was intended to be: a law protecting homeowners and keeping seniors in their homes – not a loophole for corporations.”

The California Schools and Local Communities Funding Act, led by Advancement Project California, California Calls, Common Sense Kids Action, Evolve California, League of Women Voters of California, PICO California, Alliance San Diego, the Coalition of Humane Immigrant Rights of California (CHIRLA), and the California Federation of Teachers seeks to eliminate the Proposition 13 corporate property tax loophole. The loophole, which was snuck into Prop 13 by special interests, allows wall street, big oil, and massive corporations to pay microscopic property taxes on some of the most valuable land across California. The Schools & Communities First Act would close this loophole, which would provide billions of dollars every year to schools and public services, all the while maintaining Prop 13 protections for small businesses, agriculture, and residential properties.

Recently, the coalition launched kick off events all across California to recruit and train volunteers to collect signatures to make the November ballot. The loophole closure also picked up a key endorsement from California Federation of Teachers President Joshua Pechthalt, one of the largest teachers unions in the state.

Veronica Carrizales, Policy and Campaign Development Director of California Calls, issued this statement following the CARA endorsement:

“We are thankful for the words of President Brasmer and the support of over 950,000 CARA members. Voters originally passed Prop 13 to protect homeowners and senior citizens, not to give massive handouts to corporations like Wells Fargo and Chevron. By passing the California Schools and Local Communities Funding Act, we will ensure that older adults and all Californians have the high quality public services that makes our state a world leader.
