LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CA — Serving as one of the biggest and most significant endorsements yet in the race for California Lt. Governor, today State Senator Dr. Ed Hernandez earned the highly coveted support of the California Teachers Association (CTA).
In announcing their endorsement, California Teachers Association President Eric Heins released the following statement:
“The California Teachers Association is proud to announce our endorsement of Senator Ed Hernandez for California Lt. Governor. He’s been a leader in fighting for more investments in local neighborhood schools and in standing up for educators and our students. Senator Hernandez has been an effective state lawmaker when it comes to education policy and we know we’ll continue to be a champion for public education as our state’s next Lt. Governor. He has our full support.”
Also, over the weekend, CTA President Heins remarked: “Senator Hernandez has a proven and demonstrated track record of supporting students, educators and public education,” said CTA President Eric Heins. “He’s the first in his family to graduate from college and he believes that an education is the greatest equalizer in our society… CTA went on to note, “Hernandez has a master plan for higher education, in which the Lieutenant Governor plays a vital role, and his voting record in both the California Assembly and Senate reflects his commitment to all students.”
To date, Senator Hernandez has won endorsements from over 50 organizations that represent working women and men.
Significantly, just weeks ago, California Governor Jerry Brown signed Senator Dr. Ed Hernandez’ groundbreaking drug transparency bill, SB-17, into law. Senator Hernandez’ latest digital video ad, titled, “Life or Death,” features a moving testimonial from Kendall Renee, who is allergic to more than 95% of foods and carries at least four EpiPens with her at all times. Renee highlights Senator Hernandez’ efforts to combat skyrocketing drug costs in the ad.

Unshaken by big moneyed special interests, Hernandez not only has taken on Big Pharma but also fought Big Tobacco, as the architect of California’s landmark law to raise the state’s smoking age to 21.
