The Fresno County Democratic Central Committee has not endorsed any candidate in this race.
In flagrant disregard to the will of the people, the Federal Communications Commission voted 3-2 to end net neutrality. Net neutrality is a key component to a free and open Internet. Net neutrality prevents internet service providers like Comcast and AT&T from censoring access to content they don’t like, giving higher speeds to content providers who pay more, and charging different rates to consumers to access different types of sites.
I’ve said before that universal access to reliable, high speed Internet service is the equivalent of the Rural Electrification Act that brought electricity to remote and isolated parts of the country and changed Americans’ lives for the better. The Internet is the means by which information is freely accessed in the 21st century. We cannot allow corporations to determine what content is more readily available or unavailable. While the national fight to protect a free and open Internet is far from over, access to the Internet, and all of the knowledge it contains, is one of the great equalizers. With the federal government threatening our free and open Internet, California must lead the way and support Municipal/Community based Internet access for ALL Californians. In October, the late San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee released a well-researched blueprint for a fiber network connecting every home and business in the city. This could well be one model for other California cities and the entire country. Fundamentally, the Internet should be treated like a public utility. As Governor, I will lead the fight for municipal/community based net neutral, high speed Internet for all Californians. If you agree, please sign my petition to champion Municipal/Community based Internet in order to ensure Net Neutrality for all Californians. In solidarity, Delaine Delaine Eastin |
