My opponent says he supports single payer healthcare.  But does he really?

He has not endorsed the single payer healthcare bill, SB 562.  He was silent about the bill as it was being considered by the Legislature last year.  He did not support the bill while it was being hotly debated in the Senate Health Committee where it passed without a vote to spare.  And his silence about SB 562 continued when the bill finally came to the Senate Floor for another close vote.  And even yesterday, there is not one mention of SB 562 in his email.

Don’t be fooled.

I am the only candidate for Attorney General to formally endorse SB 562 (single payer). I am listed second on the Senate analysis just after the California Nurses Association (see official list below).  And long before SB 562, I co-authored Senator Sheila Kuehl’s and Senator Mark Leno’s single payer bills.

I believe healthcare is a human right. I have rallied, spoken out, urged editorial boards to support SB 562, and advocated for SB 562’s passage. Unlike my opponent, I refuse to take money from the insurance industry which is fighting to block SB 562.

It’s well past the time for Democratic candidates like my opponent to stop the lip service for single payer. It’s time to pass the bill!

Will you stand with the candidate for Attorney General who is actually fighting for single payer?

Sincerely,

DAVE JONES

California Insurance Commissioner and Candidate for Attorney General
