PROGRESSIVES
for ERIC BAUMAN
“Dear Democratic Leader;
We are writing to urge you to support Eric Bauman for Chair of the California Democratic Party.
Eric Bauman has been a champion of universal healthcare his entire career. As an emergency room nurse, Eric understands that everyone’s health is fragile and that we all need high quality, affordable healthcare. That’s why universal healthcare champions such as U.S. Rep. John Garamendi, State Senator Ricardo Lara, former Senator and Los Angeles County Supervisor Sheila Kuehl, former Senator Mark Leno, and Dr. Paul Song all support his candidacy.
Eric is a champion of labor. He has walked the picket line and fought unjust employers as a union member and as a Democratic leader. He helped organize his nurse colleagues at Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center and at Providence Tarzana Medical Center into SEIU. He continues to support workers throughout the state as they fight for strong contracts, fair wages, employer- paid healthcare, and a voice in their workplaces.
Eric ran campaigns against the anti-labor initiatives which aimed to silence the voices of working men and women. And he partnered with the L.A. Federation of Labor in last years “Fight for 15” campaign, which brought the $15/hour minimum wage to L.A. City and County, Long Beach, and Pasadena.
As a defender of public education, Eric has fought hard against vouchers, charter schools, and privatization of education. He knows that good schools demand transparent governance, respect for teachers, and a commitment to all students. And he believes that college should be affordable! That is why the California Faculty Association, the California College Democrats, and the California Young Democrats have all endorsed his candidacy.
As leader of the LGBTQ community, Eric headed L.A.’s Stonewall Democratic Club for much of the 1990s, helped found what became the National Stonewall Democrats, and campaigned tirelessly against Proposition 8. And, he is still fighting for his community and for all Californians to enjoy equal rights.
Eric started as a grassroots organizer to the State Party’s Vice Chair. As Vice Chair of the California Democratic Party, Eric has helped it grow into a dominant force in state politics, holding every statewide elected office and a two-thirds super-majority in both houses of the Legislature. He has also chaired the Los Angeles County Democratic Party for 16 years, transforming it into a national-award-winning political powerhouse whose annual budget has grown from $50,000 at the start of his tenure to $1.7 million today.
Still, Eric isn’t satisfied. He knows that our Party must do more to advance social and economic justice here in California and across the country. To accomplish that, he wants our Party to become more progressive, inclusive, and in touch with its grassroots. One of Eric’s best qualities is his desire to listen to critiques and act boldly to address them.
He has the experience and the know-how to further grow our Party so that we can achieve all our goals. That is why nurses, teachers, firefighters, healthcare workers, and hotel workers all support Eric Bauman.
Please vote for Eric Bauman for Chair of the California Democratic Party.”
