There’s a saying in Spanish that means: “Tell me with whom you walk and I will tell who you are.”
Today I proudly entered my neighborhood polling place after visiting my parents — hardworking immigrants who helped build our state (my mom as a clerical worker, my dad as a construction worker).
As I cast my ballot for Democrats up and down our state, I thought about my Mom and Dad and people like them who share our values of fairness and opportunity for every Californian.
Like my parents, Manuel and Maria, I believe everyone who works hard deserves a chance to get ahead.
As your attorney general, that means keeping our families safe, defending the rights of everyone and advancing opportunity for all Californians who play by the rules.
My parents still remember the days when they couldn’t walk into restaurants in Sacramento because of signs that read, “No dogs or Mexicans allowed.”
Unfortunately, today the progress that our nation has made is under attack.
As your attorney general, I will not let us go back in time. I am deeply committed to moving California forward, by protecting our families and values.
Thankfully, we’ve already had significant legal victories, including:
- Taking thousands of illegal weapons off our streets
- Taking down massive gangs
- Stopping sex-trafficking rings
- Securing hundreds of millions of dollars for defrauded college students
- Defeating Big Oil and Big Banks who cheat consumers
- Protecting access to birth control
- Reinstating the DACA program for Dreamers
Michael, I want to see every fight we have underway, and more, across the finish line.
