Since the election, Kamala has made it clear that one of the priorities of our campaign is to fight back against careless attempts by Republicans to repeal the Affordable Care Act.
There is no question that the ACA is far from a perfect law, but repealing it would be a disaster for millions of Americans, particularly those who are college-aged or suffer from pre-existing conditions.
Instead of repealing it, Republicans should listen to what the vast majority of Americans want and work with Democrats to advance commonsense reforms that will improve the law, not callously take health insurance away from millions of people.
When she is sworn in next week, Kamala has pledged to be a leading voice in the fight to save the Affordable Care Act, which is why we’re asking:
Since 2010, the year President Obama signed the Affordable Care Act into law, more than 16 million Americans have gained health coverage with another 129 million who could have otherwise been denied or faced discrimination having access to coverage. Health care prices right now have risen at the slowest rate in nearly 50 years.
Here in California, 68% of previously uninsured individuals now have quality and affordable health insurance.
Here’s the truth: whether it’s Republican attempts to repeal the Affordable Care Act or reckless legislation to privatize Medicare, Kamala will be on the front lines of these fights. As Attorney General, she defended the Affordable Care Act from legal challenges and on the Committee on Budget, we can count on her to lead the resistance against any short-sighted legislation intended to gut our social contract for future generations.
Our campaign will continue to stand with her every step of the way as we work to build a coalition of people who will never stop fighting for the voiceless and vulnerable in our society. Today, that means standing with the millions of people who are at-risk if the ACA is repealed.
If we stand together to defend the values Kamala outlined in our campaign, then there is nothing we cannot accomplish.
