One year ago today, I was with President-elect Joe Biden helping him win the Democratic Nomination in Iowa. Today, marks the historic inauguration of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.
More importantly, in the words of Vice President Kamala Harris, “and this morning, all across this nation–little girls woke up, Especially little black and brown girls who so often may feel overlooked and undervalued in their communities–but today, just maybe they’re seeing themselves for the first time in a new way.” I know this is true for me too.
Americans have been soul searching for some time. The anger and frustration towards politicians and our political institutions did not happen overnight. It has been years in the making. Years of feeling unheard. Years of the American Dream not working for many. I can’t blame people for their frustration that the american dream does not feel attainable for them. I feel their frustration and deeply share it. However, frustrations can be turned into positive change when there is respect for one another and above all respect for our most sacred institutions. America
I believe in Californians and I know Joe Biden’s heart. I have full faith he is the leader we need to restore the soul of this state and our nation. Only then can our shared visions of freedom, justice, and prosperity work for us all.
It has been my honor to serve on the National Biden Latino Leadership Committee, working to ensure Joe Biden’s election as President. I hope you will join me in congratulating President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. Please join me this evening in Celebrating America, America the Beautiful.
