OAKLAND, Calif. (May 8, 2017): Fresh off Senator Holly Mitchell and Assembly Member Dr. Shirley Weber’s call for the Party to elect it’s first woman of color as Chair, Kimberly Ellis’s campaign announced the support of three more members of California’s Congressional delegation: Representatives Jimmy Panetta (CA-20), Ami Bera (CA-07) and Jerry McNerney (CA-09).

These most recent endorsements from Congressional leaders in California demonstrate support for Kimberly is continuing to grow at every level in the California Democratic Party. Recent endorsements from the grassroots East Area Progressive Democratic Club (Los Angeles’s largest Democratic club), from County Central Committees up and down the state and from labor powerhouse AFSCME Council 57 show the broad strength of Kimberly’s campaign.

Rep. Ami Bera sees that commitment to organizing at the local level with fresh ideas and new approaches as a necessity for the California Democratic Party. “Democrats across the country were rocked by the November election, but it’s clear that the CDP is ready to get back on its feet. California is ready to lead the national resistance to the Trump administration’s dangerous agenda – with Kimberly Ellis at the helm,” said Bera. “There is no one better suited to the task of refocusing the CDP’s energies on organizing and getting back to basics than Kimberly.”

That persistence and commitment to local organizing was also what drew Rep. McNerney to her campaign. “For more than a decade, I was the only Congressional candidate to successfully win against an incumbent Republican,” McNerney said. “Hard work, grassroots organizing and a commitment to every person in my district got me here. I hear those same commitments from Kimberly.”
