Experience Matters

FRESNO—For half a year now, the media has fed the American public a false narrative that the U.S. presidential election is a choice between two undesirable candidates.

In the last two presidential debates, America has been able to see beyond the smoke of media sensationalism to see the real candidates and the most important question facing us today: Who has the strength and knowledge to lead our country safely through whatever challenges come our way?

Hillary Clinton has been involved in public service for her entire life, and that is the kind of experience we need now. Over the past six years, Congress has completely abdicated its responsibility to rule, preferring to shut down the government, not pass complete budgets and holding 62 showboating attempts to repeal all or part of Obamacare while America has suffered from ongoing serious problems.

“Our country is at a critical turning point,” notes Michael D. Evans, chair of the Fresno County Democratic Party. “And this election will determine the direction of the nation for the next generation. It is essential that we have competent, experienced and visionary leadership.”

Frankly, Washington is such a log-jammed partisan maze these days that we absolutely need a Washington insider so that our President might have any hope of overcoming it. We need an expert. Clinton has experience with compromise and working with both parties. When she finalized her proposed strategy for combatting ISIS and other foreign threats to the United States, she assembled a committee of senior military and intelligence experts, many of whom had risen to prominence during Republican administrations. Donald Trump cannot even work with his Vice President on a Syria strategy.

Beyond any media spin, the debates allow us to see who the candidates represent. Clinton has spent her life working for nonprofits and government, always addressing the needs of the people. Clinton is respected by experts at home and across the globe.

If one good thing can be said for all the endless targeted attacks against Clinton, they mean that we now know more about her than any other presidential candidate in history. The hacks against the Democratic Party later released on WikiLeaks, confirmed by U.S. intelligence to have been conducted by the Russian government, have shown private communications in which Clinton comes across as frustrated but nevertheless capable of understanding the positions of both parties. She is strong and she is stable. That is why she was able to negotiate a tough nuclear arms reduction treaty with Russia and force Iran to the negotiating table where they gave up their own nuclear weapons program.

The Fresno County Democratic Party is united behind Hillary Clinton for President. The official Coordinated Campaign headquarters is at 1035 U Street in downtown Fresno. To volunteer or for more information, contact 559-495-0606 or fresnocountydemocrats@yahoo.com.
