Serving the Public
FRESNO—Hillary Clinton has repeatedly showed that the fundamental philosophy that motivates her today is the same Methodist lesson her parents instilled in her from a young age: “Do all the good you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can.”
Government is an instrument to serve the public, and that is what Clinton has worked for over her entire life. From before we were ever a country, we in America have been a jumbled mess of different backgrounds, religions and identities. However, we created a government of the people, by the people and subject to the people that has held us together through revolution, civil war, and hatred both domestic and foreign. We have only achieved that by understanding that it is our unity that gives us strength. No one can be allowed to profit from splitting that apart.
This question of national character is not simply an abstract concern. Our safety and our very economy depends on it. Those who wish to guide our country to something better than we have ever had before need to look out for everyone, not just those in a few narrow categories.
“This year’s presidential election is about the future of our country—probably for the next generation,” says Michael D. Evans, chair of the Fresno County Democratic Party. “We need leadership that reflects the ultimate strengths of our national character.”
Clinton has a detailed and comprehensive plan fund the creation of jobs and to protect against job loss featuring development of infrastructure, investment and future proofing economic programs to forestall harm from the coming challenges from global warming and transformation of energy use.
She knows that young Americans today have faced particularly severe challenges, coming into the job market in the aftermath of an economy brought down by the Great Recession. That is why, in addition to her job creation programs, she has designed a new National Service Reserve that will allow young Americans to serve their communities and their country. This program will give people who need to gain experience but face a job market led by apprehensive employers a new avenue to prove themselves.
Clinton will work with higher-ed institutions to explore granting credit for college-level learning gained through service experiences and triple the size of AmeriCorps. And she will continue to grow the Peace Corps, which gives Americans unparalleled global experience while continuing to build the international stature of our country. That is what it looks like for a nominee to care about improving opportunities for everyone at once.
