Esmeralda Soria Fresno City Councilmember District 1

Dear resident,

Yesterday, I introduced two resolutions that were approved by council and will bring much needed financial assistance to small businesses, micro farmers, and renters affected by the COVID-19 Pandemic.

The first resolution adds an additional $2 million for small business grants to be added to the existing Save Our Small Businesses Program. $5,000 and $10,000 grants will be awarded.

This resolution also appropriates $1.5 million to create a Housing Retention Grant program to assist Fresno families impacted by job loss or reduction in hours related to COVID-19. These grants of $500 (individual) or $1,000 (family) will assist tenants with rent and housing related expenses or could make payments to the landlord directly with an agreement of a rent reduction.

Also approved is a resolution that provides assistance to micro farmers affected due to COVID-19 restaurant & fresh market closures. In partnership with the Asian Business Institute & Resource Center appropriating $500,000 in CARES ACT funds to provide $1,000 grants for farmers. Farmers will donate all surplus products to Central CA Food Bank Distribution Partners for distribution to the community.

Thank you for you support and your patience as we continue to identify funds to assist our impacted community members.

Should you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact my office at (559) 621-7817 or via email at District1@fresno.gov.

Sincerely,

Querido residente,

Sinceramente,

Esmeralda Soria
