Today, the California Democratic Party is celebrating the birthday of one of our heroes: Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
Ruth Bader Ginsburg has spent her career fiercely advocating for justice and equality for all Americans, and in her honor, today we’d like to share with you an important bill that Speaker Pelosi just introduced: the Equality Act.
The Equality Act would finally provide federal nondiscrimination protections for LGBTQ Americans, banning discrimination in employment, housing, public accommodations, education, and more, on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity.
Even in 2019, many LGBTQ Americans still face significant discrimination in their daily lives — when looking for a job, renting an apartment, and so much more.
And while here in California we’re proud to have some of the strongest statewide nondiscrimination legislation in the country, LGBTQ Americans aren’t fully protected from discrimination in 30 states.
