This is the first time I’ve run for office. I may not know politics, but I know my community and I know we deserve a representative in the Sierra who cares.
I’m five generations from the Sierra foothills and understand our issues.
So taking on California’s most conservative member of Congress and a career politician, while rejecting all corporate PAC money, I knew I had an uphill climb.
But I’m good at uphill climbs. I hiked my entire district on the Pacific Crest Trail from Lake Tahoe to Yosemite to Kings Canyon.
They say this is a tough fight, but I’m used to tough fights. I spent more than a decade as a national security strategist, including over a year in Iraq. It’s going to take a lot more than McClintock’s lies, hateful rhetoric, and dark money to deter me.
I was told I wouldn’t stand a chance when I announced my candidacy — Now I’m polling within the margin of error against him.
For nearly two years, I’ve been visiting communities large and small listening to neighbors and local leaders from all political persuasions.
They’re worried about worsening wildfires, losing their health care, and stagnant wages. My opponent is never shy about his opinions on these issues: He doesn’t believe in climate change, said that pre-existing conditions are just “nuisances” he can’t be bothered to care about, and voted to raise taxes on working families.
McClintock is too extreme for California and he’s used his platform to promote hate and division. In a few days, we have a historic opportunity to unseat him.
