Over the last six months, I and my team in the State Controller’s office have been immersed 24/7 in protecting the state’s fiscal and financial condition pursuant to the COVID-19 pandemic and pandemic-induced recession.

Their health and safety paramount, my team has not missed a beat managing the state’s cash tightly and eliminating the need for external borrowing, paying the state’s bills on time, issuing payroll and retirement checks reliably, and more.

Our work will grow in challenge and complexity with the prolonged recession and the focus on rebuilding California’s economy. Please join me next week to learn more about what lies ahead for California and the work I will continue to do serving as your Controller.
