Biden Latino Leadership Committee Member & State Senator Melissa Hurtado Issues Election Statement

(SANGER, CA) California State Senator Melissa Hurtado (D-Sanger), released the following statement on the 2020 Presidential Election:

“Joe Biden is on track to win more votes than any candidate in history and I am proud to see that the Latino vote will be the margin of victory. The Biden campaign has already received a record of over 8.6 million Latino votes, which helped reshape and solidify the presidential battleground map in the Western United States, including states like Colorado, New Mexico and Arizona.

“Voters chose the right person to heal our nation. They rejected the politics of division and harsh rhetoric in favor of decency, honesty and honor. As a Latina, millennial and daughter of immigrants, I know there’s no better choice than Joe Biden to unite the country around a mission to defeat the pandemic and bring jobs, healthcare and hope back to communities across America.”

In July, the Biden for President campaign named Senator Hurtado to its Latino Leadership Committee. Senator Hurtado — an early supporter  — is one of two female California leaders handpicked for this post; Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda Solis heads up the committee. The committee has worked closely with campaign leadership to recruit talent in battleground states, provide input on policy initiatives, engage community leaders and provide input on Latino outreach. The national committee is made up of 40 leaders from 18 states, including five from California and the only member of the legislature.

Senator Melissa Hurtado was first elected to the California State Senate in 2018, flipping the 14th Senate District from red to blue. The daughter of immigrant parents and the first in her family to graduate from college, Hurtado is the youngest woman ever elected to the State Senate and has fought for all families to have access to healthcare, quality schools, good paying jobs and the opportunity for a better life.

Fresno City College Holds Groundbreaking for new Parking Structure!

I wanted to take some time to provide you with an update on the Fresno City College Parking Structure. We recently held a groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate this historic victory for students, staff, and the surrounding neighborhood! This project will alleviate the multi-decade parking issues that have occurred for far too long at FCC. On top of that, we also cut the project cost in half by incorporating innovative design strategies. See below for additional info!

I look forward to continuing to keep you in the loop on the latest progress for these exciting projects. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out anytime.

Fresno City College Breaks Ground on Parking Structure
To solve a multi-decade parking problem, the Board of Trustees approved and recently held a groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate the construction of the new 5-story parking facility. The structure will be located north of the former District Office between Cambridge Avenue and Weldon Avenue. It’ll contain 862 parking stalls, 40 EV charging stations, and 126 additional parking stalls immediately adjacent.

The District was able to reduce the $50 million project down to $22 million by opting for a design-build construction contract. Construction is anticipated to start early 2021 with completion in 2022. This project is a huge win for students, staff, and the surrounding community!

Join us at the upcoming Community Blood Drive to donate blood and enter into a drawing to win a $250 gift card to Gazebo Gardens! Pre-registration highly recommended! Spots are filling up fast!
