Every day, big businesses and data brokers collect and sell our personal information without our knowledge or consent. An initiative proposed for the November ballot will give us an unprecedented opportunity to take back control of our own personal information. It’s called The California Consumer Privacy Act.
Under current California law, we do not have the right to find out what information businesses are collecting about us, much less who they are selling that information to.
Additionally, many businesses that collect our personal and private information don’t implement the most basic security measures to keep our data safe, making our identities vulnerable to hackers. That’s why we’ve included strong accountability measures in our initiative when companies breach our data.
The California Consumer Privacy Act will:
Give Californians the right to know what information big businesses are collecting about us & our families;
Give us the power to decide if we want companies to STOP selling our personal information; and;
Hold companies accountable for data breaches and breaking the law.
The leading Democratic candidate hoping to unseat the Republican chairman of the committee has raised more than $100,000 in campaign donations. Since Nunes’ classified memo was released on Friday, the campaign for California prosecutor Andrew Janz has raised $130,379 and is just shy of 4,000 individual contributions.
It’s been a rough week for House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes, the California Republican at the center of a Washington firestorm after crafting a memo alleging bias and misconduct at the FBI and Department of Justice. But for Andrew Janz, the congressman’s Democratic opponent, things have never been better.
Yesterday, Donald Trump and Republicans like Congressman Devin Nunes weaponized classified intelligence in a blatant attempt to undermine the Russia investigation.
As you well know, this had nothing to do with transparency and everything to do with playing politics with national security. It is just wrong.
We cannot allow political gain and expediency to discredit the investigation into Russia’s influence in our elections and the Trump campaign’s ties to Russia.
That’s why we need to fight back today and pressure the Republicans to remove Rep. Devin Nunes — who has acted in bad faith for well over a year now — from the House Intelligence Committee and demand they protect the Russia investigation from any political interference from the White House.
I will continue to support the brave men and women in our law enforcement — including the Special Counsel — who must be given the independence to do their job and find the truth, free of political interference. I hope you join me in this fight.
Los Angeles – California Democratic Party Chair Eric C. Bauman released the following statement in reaction to the release of the Nunes Memo attacking the FBI:
“Trump’s decision to release the Nunes Memo is a page right out of the tinpot dictator handbook. This is an open declaration of war on the FBI and the rule of law. Nunes and Trump are lashing out like guilty men who know investigators are inching closer and closer to exposing their crimes. Devin Nunes must be held to account for his dangerous smear campaign against the FBI. We echo the calls for him to be replaced on the Intelligence Committee. Democrats must be ready to resist even worse actions by Trump to subvert and obstruct justice.”
