Good morning,

I am reaching out to you because we are conducting focus groups for the Drive Initiative.  This initiative is a 10 year investment plan to develop an vibrant and sustainable economy for the residents in Fresno.  We would really appreciate if you all could reach out to residents you work with to invite them to participate in the focus groups.  Anyone that participates in the focus groups will receive a $15 gift card for their time.  Our next focus group will be at Sunnyside Library located 5566 E. Kings Canyon Rd. from 5pm-7pm.  I would really appreciate if there are any residents that you may work with or live in the area can take part in the focus groups.  I am attaching a flyer with the date and locations.  Please feel free to call or email me if there are any additional questions.

Thank you,

Kimberly

Bullard Black Face Incident
“True peace is not merely the absence of tension, it is the presence of justice” – Dr. Martin Luther King Jr
National Network In Action civil rights leader Rev. Dr Floyd D. Harris Jr will be holding a press conference at Buchanan High School regarding the lack of accountability both Bullard High School and FUSD has taken in regards to a cheerleader posing in black face while repeatedly using the word nigga. The same students was also filmed using the word on campus. Superintendent Bob Nelson stated that the young white student would receive consequences, and Bullard parents, along with the cheerleaders and coaches, voted to have the cheerleader in question off the team, but instead, further injustice has taken place.

Since the incident, several Black parents have removed their children from Bullard, and placed them at other schools, or are homeschooling them. The mothers have been threatened, one parent’s house was broken into, and the children who remain on the Bullard cheer team have been subject to being bullied by the perpetrator, and those protecting her. This has created a hostile environment for Black students at Bullard. A protest is being held at the Bullard and Buchanan game this Friday, August 30, 2019 beginning at 6:00pm to show our solidarity and support of the Black students, and cheerleaders at Bullard who have been affected by the acts of this student. This protest is also taking place to express the Black community’s grievance with Bullard and FUSD for not removing the cheerleader who chose to use a historically racist gesture and word and spread it to fellow students at Bullard.
