The UNITE HERE! California State Council and International union has endorsed Democrat Dave Jones for California Attorney General.
Representing over 75,000 workers in eight locals throughout California and 300,000 workers nationwide in the hotel, gaming, food service, manufacturing, textile, distribution, laundry, transportation, and airport industries
UNITE HERE! fights for dignity and better conditions for some of the most overlooked and underappreciated workers in the state.
“Dave Jones has a long and consistent record of fighting for working men and women,” said Enrique Fernandez, President, UNITE HERE! California State Council. “He is the strongest candidate for Attorney General, the best qualified to resist Trump, will fight for immigrants’ rights, and will hold corporations accountable when they violate the rights of working men and women.”
“I am so proud to be supported by UNITE HERE!” said Jones. “UNITE HERE! gives a powerful and effective voice to workers who have been underpaid and exploited for far too long. As Attorney General I pledge to stand with them in enforcing California labor and health and safety laws to ensure that all working families are accorded respect and their collective bargaining rights are protected.”
Dave Jones has scored a number of major labor endorsements in his campaign, including the California Federation of Teachers, United Teachers Los Angeles, California School Employees Association (CSEA), Northern California District Council of Carpenters, Sailors Union of the Pacific and the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU).
In late February, Jones stunned the state’s political establishment when he not only denied the appointed incumbent Attorney General the endorsement by the California Democratic Party, but won the vote with a strong 56% majority from the over 2,800 Party delegates.
With $4.1 million cash on hand, Jones, who has run statewide successfully four times, is waging a winning statewide campaign.
HERNANDEZ ENDORSED BY ESTEEMED CONGRESSMAN AS UNRELENTING MOMENTUM CONTINUES
East Bay Congressman Mark DeSaulnier Backs State Senator Ed Hernandez for Lt. Governor
LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CA- Continuing to secure broad support from prominent California leaders in his campaign for California Lieutenant Governor, today State Senator Dr. Ed Hernandez was endorsed by Congressman Mark DeSaulnier.
Following the announced endorsement, Congressman DeSaulnier released a statement where he remarked:
“Senator Ed Hernandez has been a tireless leader for working families in the state legislature. I know, because I saw his efforts firsthand in the State Senate. He’s fiercely dedicated to increasing access to healthcare, lowering the cost of prescription drugs, making higher education more affordable and protecting our environment. These are a few of the reasons why I am proud to endorse Senator Ed Hernandez to be California’s next Lieutenant Governor.”
Last week, Senator Hernandez was the top vote getter among delegates at the California Democratic Party convention. With 1,157 votes cast in his favor at the California Democratic Party convention, Senator Hernandez received more delegate votes than any candidate running for Governor of California, where the top vote getter earned 1,087 votes, as well as more votes than California’s incumbent U.S. Senator, who received 1,023. Senator Hernandez triumphed at convention despite not surpassing the high 60% vote threshold required to win the endorsement.
Recently, State Senator Dr. Ed Hernandez rolled out a new digital video ad, titled “Proven Progressive,” in his campaign for California Lieutenant Governor. The ad highlights some of the Senator’s high-powered endorsements, including from the California Nurses Association and the California Teachers Association, along with his 100% legislative voting scorecard from organizations like the California Labor Federation* and Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California Advocates*.

Significantly, recently California Governor Jerry Brown signed Senator Dr. Ed Hernandez’ groundbreaking drug transparency bill, SB-17, into law. Senator Hernandez’ latest digital video ad, titled, “Life or Death,” features a moving testimonial from Kendall Renee, who is allergic to more than 95% of foods and carries at least four EpiPens with her at all times. Renee highlights Senator Hernandez’ efforts to combat skyrocketing drug costs in the ad.
A husband, father, grandfather, practicing optometrist, and local businessman, “Dr. Ed” (as he is known to his patients) has spent his life bringing quality eye care to predominantly low-income communities. As a health care provider, the need to improve access to health care for all Californians is what first drove him to run for office.
Since being elected to the Assembly in 2006 and the Senate in 2010, Dr. Ed Hernandez has been a leader on the implementation of federal health care reform – helping expand access to affordable health care, control costs, and improve the network of providers so people can actually get quality care when they need it. Dr. Ed has been a champion by expanding educational opportunity to qualified students overlooked by our public schools and universities, as well as a major proponent for government reform, including fixing a broken initiative system too often hijacked by billionaires and wealthy corporations. Dr. Ed Hernandez is running to take this experience, leadership, and vision to the next level by serving the people of California as their Lieutenant Governor.

In case you missed the news from this past weekend, we earned the California Democratic Party Endorsement! And I’m so thankful to delegates and appreciative of all the volunteers that helped with our outreach in the weeks leading up to the Convention.
During the convention, we unveiled our new campaign video highlighting our work resisting and defeating Trump’s sham voter fraud commission. Check out the link below to watch it. And please share it with your friends and family.
Clearly, I’m proud of my work in resisting this commission and advancing reforms to make it easier for eligible Californians to register and vote. But I need your help to ensure my reelection and the opportunity to serve for four more years.
I’ve always believed health care should be a right for everyone and while I’ve fought for access to affordable care for decades, I’ve never been more proud as I am today of the strides we’re taking in court.
Together, we’re seeing one success after another for our families.
We’ve reversed Donald Trump’s effort to limit access to birth control, we’ve intervened in a lawsuit that could determine the fate of affordable care, and much more.
But in many ways, we’re just getting started!
As today’s Washington Post reports: we’ve just established a new strike force at the California Department of Justice to enforce our nation’s health care laws, like the Affordable Care Act, and to defend health care as a right!
