Sierra Club, WILPF Fresnans Against Fracking Movie – June 27

Subject: Sierra Club, WILPF Fresnans Against Fracking Movie – June 27

Come see this important movie about the economics of water in California (free showing) sponsored by the above organizations.

Gene Richards

INTRODUCTION
This excellent movie from National Geographic — Water & Power: A California Heist — will have a free showing at Woodward Park Regional Library, 944 E. Perrin Ave (near Champlain), in Fresno on Tuesday, June 27 at 6:30 pm. The movie is sponsored by the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF) and co-sponsored by Fresnans Against Fracking and the Tehipite Chapter of the Sierra Club.
The movie delves into the formation of the Kern Water Bank, how it ended up controlled by large-scale agricultural interests, and current efforts secretly underway to buy and sell groundwater, treating it like a commodity (rather like Enron treated California’s electricity) rather than the public resource that it is. Don’t miss this important public interest documentary (80 minutes long), followed by a discussion.
