Since the beginning of the pandemic we have worked hard to ensure we deliver CARES Act relief directly into our community. I am extremely proud of the work we have done.
During the last few months we have delivered over $5 million in food relief and $5 million for COVID-19 testing to ensure that those most vulnerable to the pandemic have the ability to get a free test, because we know many do not have access to healthcare. We also have provided $5 million for housing retention grants to ensure that people receive housing aid and do not experience homelessness during these difficult times. We have also provided $5 million for our small businesses to ensure they can also survive during this pandemic and made available $2 million for nonprofits, arts & culture, and other sectors.
I am very excited that in the next few months we will see the first City of Fresno Neighborhood Senior Center open in District 1. I am proud of the significant investments in neighborhoods like Highway City, that for decades have lacked basic infrastructure that provides pedestrian safety.
While this may not be the perfect budget and there is still a lot to be done for our community, this year we have made a tremendous amount of progress.

Desde el comienzo de la pandemia, hemos trabajado arduamente para garantizar que la ayuda de la Ley CARES llegue directamente a nuestra comunidad. Estoy muy orgullosa del trabajo que hemos realizado.
En los últimos meses, hemos entregado más de $5 millones en ayuda alimentaria y más de $5 millones para pruebas de COVID-19 para garantizar que los más vulnerables a la pandemia tengan la capacidad de obtener una prueba gratuita, porque sabemos que muchos no tienen acceso a cuidado de la salud. También hemos proporcionado $5 millones para subvenciones de retención de vivienda para garantizar que las personas reciban ayuda para la vivienda y no se se vean sin hogar durante estos tiempos difíciles. Estoy muy emocionada de que en los próximos meses veremos el primer Centro Comunitario para Personas Mayores de la Ciudad de Fresno abierto en el Distrito 1. Estoy orgullosa de las importantes inversiones en vecindarios como Highway City, que durante décadas han carecido de infraestructura básica que brinde seguridad a los peatones .
Si bien este puede no ser el presupuesto perfecto y todavía queda mucho por hacer para nuestra comunidad, este año hemos logrado un gran progreso.
