Esmeralda Soria Continues To Win Major Labor Endorsements In Campaign for Congressional District 16

FRESNO, C.A. – Today, Fresno City Councilmember and Community College Professor Esmeralda Soria, announced another series of major labor endorsements in her campaign for Congress in California’s 16th Congressional District.

  1. IBEW Local 100
  2. Sheetmetal Workers, Int’l Association 162
  3. Carpenters 701
  4. Teamsters 431

The endorsements mark another head-turning win for Soria’s campaign against conservative Democrat Jim Costa who has held elected office for 4 decades.  In recent weeks Soria successfully denied Costa the Democratic Party endorsement, announced support from the Fresno City Firefighter union, and posted an impressive fundraising haul fueled by grassroots individual donors.  Soria, unlike Costa, has pledged to not accept corporate money. “It is an honor to have earned each and every one of these labor union endorsements. As a councilmember, I worked closely with labor to create thousands of local jobs that provide a living wage, healthcare and a pension that all families deserve. In Congress, I will continue to put the interests of our Central Valley families ahead of special interest,” Esmeralda Soria said.

“After 40 years in political office, Costa has lost the trust and support of working families in the Central Valley.  This district is hungry for new leadership who is not going to put corporate interests ahead of working families. Labor sends a loud and clear message that working families are ready for change and that change is Esmeralda Soria,”  said Clara Varner, Soria’s campaign manager.
